In the first part of our series on the custom home building process, we discussed the things that you should know prior to building a home. While all of the steps featured in that article are extremely important, they aren’t nearly as fun as selecting the design features of your home! Which paint colors should you choose? Granite or quartz? The options are endless and can be overwhelming, so let’s take it one step at a time.
Kitchen & Bath – With help from our friends at Atlantic Designs Kitchen and Bath, our design team at Hunter Creek Homes will help guide you through the vast selection process. For the rooms where your family will spend a majority of their time, it’s important that these spaces are both functional and comfortable. With so many styles that can be achieved in your new kitchen and bathrooms, how do you choose the right one? Do you prefer a farmhouse look, rustic theme, modern style, or something a little more traditional? From the cabinets to the fixtures, there are many options to consider in order to maintain a consistent theme throughout and the pros at Atlantic Designs Kitchen and Bath have the answers for you!
If you choose to take the granite route for your home, you will also get to visit with our friends at That Granite Place in Bridgeville to hand-pick your very own slab of granite!
Exterior Design – Prior to beginning the construction of your home, you will be presented with options to select for your siding, windows, shutters, and doors. Do you prefer a classic 12-pane window or the look of a craftsman style window? For your front entry way, do you want a side light or windows in the door to allow more light to enter your home or do you prefer the privacy of a solid door? Our team will present you with swatches and samples to choose from. We will also share images with you from previous projects so you can view a full size sample of the items you’re choosing. Trend Alert: darker siding with lighter trim is in this year!
Appliances – Our approach to excellence is to allow our families to purchase their household appliances from the companies of their choosing. For that reason, we will set aside an allowance for you to use when shopping for your next refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, laundry appliances and more. This will allow you to choose the brand and the surface finish for these appliances in addition to earning those valuable credit card points when making large purchases.
Paint Colors – The colors painted on your interior walls are such a personal decision. We are always happy to offer our opinion, but the selection process is truly up to you. Believe it or not, there are actually 15 shades of white paint that exist and all of these shades are included in your home package. You may choose to upgrade to paint colors beyond white and our paint team will take it from there! When choosing the right paint color, consider the “mood” of the room. Do you want your dining area to appear formal and quiet? Are you painting a room for your child that just screams vibrant colors? Whatever the room may be, you will be given the option to select from a variety of hues to match your personality and the theme throughout your brand new home.
